Golf Philippines soars to new heights as the Philippine Airlines Interclub Golf Tournament, which for the last two decades has distinguished itself as the country's national team golf championship, reels off February 19 at two challenging courses in Davao City.
If one goes over the list of players who have participated in the Philippine Airlines Interclub Golf Tournament, it would be safe to conclude that the annual golfing event that had its auspicious beginnings in 1948 has lured the country’s past, present and future champions.
An international field of 151 teams from the United States, Canada, Australia, China, Saudi Arabia and host Philippines is lined up at the annual tournament involving senior players and men's regular golfers.
Hosts of the action are Apo Golf and Country Club and Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club in Davao Philippines.
"Once again, our tournament has lured a big number of golfers from around the world," said PAL president Jaime J. Bautista yesterday. "And this early, we wish all our guests in both divisions good luck."
On behalf of PAL, we would also like to express our gratitude to all our sponsors this year which has for its theme – 'You're No. 1'," said tournament committee chairman Domingo Duerme, PAL's senior assistant vice president for Mindanao sales.
This year’s action starts February 19 with the staging of the 22nd Senior's championship, followed by the 62nd Men’s regular tournament February 25. The Apo Golf and Country Club and Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club of Davao are the hosts.
Seventy seven international teams from the United States, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Asia and the Philippines are competing in the Senior's event and 76 in the Men’s regular. To be contested are golf Philippines team and individual trophies in the Championship, Founders, Sportswriters and Friendship divisions.
The Canlubang Golf and Country Club heads the championship field. Other teams seeing action are Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club, Del Monte Golf Club, Luisita Golf Philippines and Country Club and Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
