Iligan city will soon embrace a unique way of celebrating the Christmas season this coming December 15 to 22 at Pryce Properties, Tubod highway, Iligan City.
City Councilor Marlene L. Young, the event chairperson, said this activity has never been tried anywhere in the Philippines--incorporating our traditional way of celebrating Christmas with something novel and exciting.
With City Councilor Ruderick C. Marzo and Rosanna C. Belmonte, as co-chairpersons, they express their hopes to attract all sectors of the community including domestic and foreign tourists.
"This is a family-oriented affair, but on the other hand, the city would like to project its native food products specifically candies, chocolates, cakes and other delicacies for livelihood opportunities, to promote tourism and to develop and enhance the city's image as a place to visit and enjoy for residents and visitors alike," Councilor Young added.
Aside from merrymaking, the event organizers hope to draw the crowd's attention to the participants' special creations - like Candy Houses, Christmas Lanterns, and Christmas Trees -- wherein they will be competing for the prizes.
We are grateful to the participants who have responded to our invitation to join the first ever Christmas Candy Wonderland in Iligan, expressed Young.
"This is an open competition, thus, we still accept entries from the local entrepreneurs, companies and/or establishments within the locality, together with the participation of some private and public schools, national line agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), the city government, and the city's 44 barangays as well," said the lady councilor.
We will be expecting a huge crowd to witness the grand opening on December 15, at 5:00p.m., having a countdown as the Christmas Candy Village will be officially lighted. (Jun Cabilla/PIA LDN)
