The government of Tabuk plans to celebrate the city's 12th founding anniversary and the Matagoan Festival on June 24-26 with “crowd drawer” events.
City Tourism Officer Arlene Ethel Odiem said these include cultural street parade, motocross, Matagoan run, Patawid Agro-Industrial Trade Fair, Agri-lympics, Skills Olympics, drum and lyre competition, and Dornat or the rite of re-warming the Bodong.
Other activities include a tree planting to commemorate the Environment Month this June as well as a seven-minute production of the history of Tabuk City.
On the first day, a Matagoan Festival Call is scheduled at 6 a.m. where members of the Manpedal Tako Tabuk (MAPETAK) Bikers will be doing the rounds around town to “call” the people to join in the celebrations, followed by a grand civic parade and a program at the Tabuk People’s Gym.
Also included on the program is the Matagoan Dance Showdown which will be held simultaneously with the Aegis Band Concert on June 24.
Part of the three-day event is the conduct of a Tourism Day featuring the Guilom Adventure and white water rafting.
Odiem said that the city government would be allotting P2 million for the event, which aims to promote Tabuk City as a major eco-tourism destination in the north through culture, environment, and agriculture development. (JDP/Geraldine G. Dumallig- PIA-CAR, Kalinga)
