PHL Tourism to get a Boost From 32nd World Universities Debating Championship

PHL tourism benefits as the Philippines (PHL) to host the 32nd World Universities Debate Olympics

The most eloquent and intelligent speakers from different colleges and universities around the world will gather in Manila from December 27, 2011 to January 4, 2012 for the 32nd World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC).

Dino De Leon, convenor of the event, said that conducting the WUDC here in the Philippines will make debate more accessible to the Filipino youth.

De Leon said this event aims to teach the young Filipino students as well as policy makers on the proper way to conduct intellectual discussions and debates.

He also said that WUDC is the "Olympics of Debate" and it will be a great opportunity to showcase the Philippines at its finest.

Aside from the competition proper, the organizers will also tour the participants around Manila and the nearby provinces.

For nine days, the participants will face nine rounds of debates and will also experience nine social events. There will be a night dedicated for women, comedy and Filipinos.

The Department of Education (DepEd) headed by Sec. Armin Luistro, the National Youth Commission (NYC), and the Department of Tourism (DOT) are working hand-in-hand with De La Salle University for the preparations and promotions of this event.

This year's host will be the La Salle Debate Society (LSDS) and the preliminary rounds will be held at the De La Salle University. The grand finals will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center Plenary Hall.

At least 1,400 students from 42 countries and 234 universities will participate in this event.

The holding of the 32nd World Universities Debating Championships (WUDC) in Manila will attract more tourists worldwide as the event promotes PHL tourism and the Philippines as a cultural and recreational destination.

The WUDC, dubbed "the Olympics of debate," is one of the largest student events in the world. It will be held at the De La Salle campus and the Philippine International Convention Center.

Aside from the opportunity to visit choice PHL tourism destinations in the country, participants will also be treated to a Filipino and Barrio Fiesta Night which will feature the country's best foods, cultural presentations and performers, he said.
