2nd Siargao Surfing Festival Begins on September 17

The 2nd Siargao Surfing Festival will officially commence on September 17 and will end on October 3, 2011, said Senior Provincial Tourism Officer Ivonnie B. Dumadag during the recently held “Coffee Shop at the Capitol.”

Dumadag said the surfing festival will feature three surfing events: the 13th Siargao National Surfing Cup, the Billabong Pro-Junior Asia, and the 17th Siargao International Surfing Cup.

“What is new for this year is the Billabong Pro Junior Asia, which is sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals,” said Dumadag.

The Billabong Pro Junior Asia event will take place at the famous surfing break Cloud 9 in Barangay Catangnan, municipality of Gen. Luna in Siargao Island on September 21-28, 2011.

The event will showcase the best junior surfers on “one of the world’s best waves.”

Dumadag said President Benigno S. Aquino III is the invited guest of honor during the opening ceremony on September 20. (FEAbkilan, PIA-Surigao del Norte)
