The City of Tagum is set to hold the Durian festival aimed at celebrating the king of the fruits this September 9-25.
The main highlight of the festival is the Durian Culinary Olympics, which pits participants in 16 durian-based culinary competitions namely; Durian filled bread, Durian kakanin, Durian pie, Durian main dish, Durian plated dessert, Durian petit four, Durian entrement, celebration cake and durian dessert buffet to feature extreme flair factor competitions such as cocktail and mocktail, restaurant complete services like waiter’s relay, chef’s relay, fruit and vegetable carving.
Aside from the culinary competitions a forum on Integrated Disease Management of Phytophthora Diseases of Durian and Jackfruit in Southern Philippines will also be held to benefit durian and jackfruit growers.
And for ordinary durian-loving folks there will be a durian eating and cracking contest open to adults and children. Other activities include a Search for ambassador and ambassadress of Mindanao Tourism plus live band and magician’s performances which will be held at the Rotary Park.
Now on its 7th year, the Durian Festival is touted as the biggest durian celebration in Mindanao. In Tagum City, it is the city’s second biggest festival of the year next only to the annual Musikahan Festival. (PIA/RG Alama)
